COVID-19 is ongoing pandemic disease caused by a virus strain named severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus
2 (SARS-CoV-2). Its first case was reported in Wuhan, China on December 2019.While it was declared pandemic by WHO on 11 March 2020. It has already infected almost every countries of world till March 25 causing 15% deaths.

How does it spread?

It spreads mainly when people are in close contact, typically:

  • While coughing without covering mouth; through droplets.
  • Touching contaminated surface and then touching face.
  • Using same toilet used by infected person

This virus has incubation period of 14 days. It may spread through person to person in symptomatic or asymptomatic conditions.

 

Person on higher risk are:

  • Person with weaker immune system
  • Older people with age >60
  • Person suffering with chronic disease
  • Smokers

 

This virus can live on common surface 

– Air : 3 Hours

– copper : 4 hours

– cardboard : 24 hours

– stainless steel : 48 to 72 hours

– Plastic : 72 hours

 

Symptoms to watch out:

  • Common Symptoms: Fever, Dry cough,sore throat, shortness of breath, loose of smell, loss of taste and general weakness.
  • Severe Symptoms: Pneumonia, acute respiratory disease symptoms.

 

 

Things that can be done to be safe:

  • Washing hands with soap water for at least 20 seconds often
  • Using hand sanitizer frequently
  • Covering mouth while coughing
  • Don’t touch face without sanitizing hands
  • Practice of using your less active hand while holding suspicious material like door knob
  • Maintaining distance from people
  • Monitoring and self-isolation of people who are suspected to be infected.
  • Refrain from smoking as it weakens lungs.
  • Eating healthy and exercise regularly to increase immunity of body.

 

 

Making immune system strong

  • Do daily exercise
  • Drink Lemon or citrus drinks to immune your body
  • Eat green vegetables and fresh foods rather than eating frozen foods
  • Try to avoid meat stuffs

 

But in many cases the infected person don’t show any symptoms but are capable of transmitting the disease. So, staying at home is the best preventive measure that can be done. Also, prevention is the only way to fight against this disease till now, since no any vaccine or medicine are yet made to cure the disease.

  1. A very interesting article. I thought they were part of pilea peperomioids. These nasturtium grow like weeds where I live in southern part of South Africa. The only problems are snails. They are hardy and face drought conditions well. We don’t get frost. I love them xx
