Low Maintenance Indoor Plants

Indoor plants add beauty and make home more lively. Some plants even purify the air creating a healthy environment. A good granary around, even while sitting inside home provides positive energy. So for those who want to decorate the house with indoor plants but confused how to choose as beginners, here is a list of indoor plants that are low maintenance and easy to grow.

1. Snake plant

  

Snake plant is hard to kill, it can survive on drought and low light conditions. They have blade like multicolored leaves. They are also known to filter toxins like trichloroethylene, formaldehyde,benzene and xylene making it perfect to add beauty and create healthy atmosphere inside home.

2. Aloe vera

Aloe vera can survive well on drought conditions but they love bright light so can be placed near window. They purify air and also can be used as anti-inflammatory and anti-septic hence making them must have indoor plants. They can be easily propagated from the older pots taking the small baby plants growing besides mother plants.

3. Cactus

A small cactus looks super cute. They can naturally thrive in dry air and drought conditions. Place them on indirect sunlight which gives them bleachy appearance making them more beautiful.

4. Pothos

Pothos grow as veins up to 10 feet tall indoor in low light and dry air conditions. They can be potted on floor or hung on baskets. Being easy to prune can be kept on the desired size. It is also known to purify the air hence creating healthy atmosphere.

5. ZZ plant

These plants look green and healthy even after a long period of neglect. It’s because they have large rhizomes which store water and allow them to grow very well in drought conditions making them perfect as low maintenance indoor plant. In different cultures this plant is considered “symbolizing prosperity and friendship”, hence can be a great gift as well.

Pony Tail Palm can easily survive on dry soil and dry air. They store water on their trunks and use them in drought times. They have long, narrow dark green leaves which gives fountain like appearance.

 

7. Swiss cheese plant

Swiss cheese plant grows in veins up to 9 ft. But being easy to prune can be kept at the desired height. They can also be decorated as hanging plants keeping them on a height. They have heart shape leaves when small but as they grow old develop lobes on the leaves. They are drought tolerant and grow well on low light conditions.

8. Fiddle leaf fig

Fiddle leaf fig becomes tall but not bushy hence looks great on high ceiling and small space homes. It has waxy broad dark green leaves. It requires medium light and watering while soil gets dry is enough.

 

9. Spider plant

  

 

Spider plant grows as a bush and thrive well on indirect light. They produce baby plants so easy to propagate. They are also known to purify the air by removing formaldehyde and xylene from the air. Hence, they are the keepers as low maintenance indoor plants.

10. Jade Plant

Jade plant is a type of succulent which grow into shape of miniature plant. They can easily survive in long drought conditions and also can tolerate a range of temperature variations.

11. Lucky Bamboo

Lucky bamboo are a type of water lily. They can be easily grown only on water. Changing water once a month is sufficient for them to thrive. Besides they grow well on low and indirect light making them suitable even for the darker parts of the house. Also they are believed to bring good luck and prosperity making them must haves on the list of indoor plants for your home.

12. Peace Lily

 

Peace lilies produce flowers on their central spikes up to 16 inches tall, surrounded by glossy, dark leaves. These plants are easy to care as they can easily grow on low light and low humidity. Evenly moist soil is enough for these plants to grow well and glamorize your home. Besides, they help to purify indoor air by removing toxin such as trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, benzene, xylene and ammonia.

13. Fern

Different varieties of fern can be easily grown as indoor plants.Ferns naturally have habit of growing on low light but requires high humidity therefore should be watered regularly.

14. Christmas Cactus

Christmas cactus produce colored flowers during spring which are able to lit up your home. These cactus have long  segmented, leafless stem with flowers at their apex. They grow well on bright light and watering after the soil is dry.

15. Philodendrons

Philodendrons with heart shaped leaves grow on veins up to 10 feet tall. They can be decorated by allowing the veins grow long on walls or can be kept short to desired height by pruning.They are drought tolerant and grow well on low light conditions.

  1. A very interesting article. I thought they were part of pilea peperomioids. These nasturtium grow like weeds where I live in southern part of South Africa. The only problems are snails. They are hardy and face drought conditions well. We don’t get frost. I love them xx
